In Which Miss Ingu Looks at Her Bird Books

Thinking about those hawks yesterday prompted me to go through the bird books to try to identify them. It turns out they were all Northern Harriers. The male and female look so different! The female is a large, brindle-colored hawk. The young look like the female with a little more light specks on the chest. The male looks like a sleek falcon. He is a white color with black wing tips in flight. Someone told me the critters in the water were River Otters. I looked them up, too, and as I suspected, they aren't. I'm not sure what they are. They might be some animal called Nutria out here. They look like muskrats to me - but do muskrats hang out in the water?
